Huawei has established itself further with the new Ascend Mate 8 further into the premium sector for smartphones. The 6-inch phablet comes equipped with a Full HD screen, the Kirin 950 64-bit octa-core SoC with 2.3GHz clock speed, either 3GB or 4GB of RAM and a giant battery with 4000mAh in a beautifully finished and slim metal-dress. Furthermore, it has pre-installed the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow (EMUI 4.0).
The sharp display with a resolution of 1920*1080 pixels (367 ppi) extends (almost) to the entire width of the flagship with very narrow bezels. Besides that, it has also a positive impact on your battery life, as Huawei didn´t choose a Quad HD display (2560*1440 pixels) or even 4K panel (3840*2160). The brilliant display is protected from scratches by Gorilla Glass 4, which is slightly curved (2.5D).
In terms of processor Huawei uses its own brand, the Kirin 950. The eight-core processor consists of four Cortex-A72 and Cortex-A53 cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.3GHz. Together with the Mali-T880 GPU, there will be no gaming problems on your cell phone anymore and you have room to improve! This is also due to the, in comparison with the Ascend Mate 7, increased memory of 3GB or 4GB of RAM.
The Mate 8 comes with an internal memory of 32GB, 64GB or 128GB and can be extended by another 128GB via microSD card. Instead of the memory card a second SIM card can be inserted into the card slot. On the high-quality aluminum back is the integrated fingerprint sensor and 16 megapixel camera (Sony IMX 298 sensor) with optical image stabilizer located, along with a dual-LED flash. On the front is a 8 megapixel camera (Sony IMX 1709 sensor). Both cameras focus very quickly and provide excellent photos. Videos can be recorded in FullHD with stereo sound.
The operating system is, as usual with Huawei, their own EMUI surface. The Mate 8 uses EMUI 4.0, based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The 4000 mAh battery has a quick charge function (Quick Charge 3.0) and lasts under normal use about 2 days. Even hard-core users have thus enough juice to survive a whole day without charging. Also on board is Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS and WiFi with ac standard or 4G LTE with the fast LTE Cat. 6 with up to 300 mbps.
